Toilets in Liguria … know how ;)

I know, I know … it sounds strange 🙂 and maybe you think I’m crazy and I don’t know what else to write here … but NO! I think it is a very IMPORTANT QUESTION! (as using a toilet is very essential in our everyday life 😉 The idea of writing this post came from my previous experiences with many (really numerous) foreign tourists in Liguria (and in general in the whole Italy) that didn’t know HOW TO FLUSH THE TOILET !!! And I must admit that the thing is not so obvious … They’re many different kinds of flushes, they are placed in different places (on the walls, on the floor), they are modern or old-styled … actually, it is a really complicated matter 😉 And I’m really not surprised that many persons have difficulties how to cope with Ligurian (Italian) toilets 🙂

So let me explain to you the different kinds of Italian toilets 🙂 (or at least the kinds I’ve already known … 😉

Classic toilet flush

It is located on the wall, exactly behind the toilet bowl. And let say this is very easy one 😉 Nothing difficult or different from what you have at home 😉 But this is only the beginning … 🙂

Photocell toilet flush

I hate it! 🙂 It works when it wants and not when you need it … very often the flush goes down when you haven’t finished yet … or doesn’t work when you finished … So you are forced to move energetically your hand or in general yourself in the front of the photocell hoping in its activation … I really hate it … And of course, photocells are used also for activating water, soap and air in the sinks … what is always a drama for me 🙂 But also this kind of public toilets are quite common abroad and you’ve probably used to them before … but now will arrive the real originals made in Italy 🙂

Pushbutton toilet flush

Sounds easy … but it is not! 🙂 I mean, you have to only push a button for flushing. However, the thing is that the button is located (very often) in absurd places 🙂 For instance in a different part of bathroom respect from the toilet bowl, very high, very low, very far away from the toilet bowl … and this means that you must find it. And it is not so immediate, so if you find such kind of public toilet, be prepared for searching a button everywhere 🙂

Pedal toilet flush

It is used for both – toilet bowl and sink. In this case, you have to search it on the floor, close to toilet bowl or sink. For activation, it is enough to push the pedal and the water flows down. What is more, sinks very often have 2 pedals (!) red and blue one … of course the red one is for hot water and the blue one for cold water 😉

Pump toilet flush

Very similar to the previous one. It is always located on the floor, close to the sinks and toilet bowls. But the difference from the ones with pedals is that the pump always stuck to the wall. I think it is the most tricky one, cause when you see it for the first time you don’t even imagine that it is a toilet flush 😉 For its activation, it is enough to push it with your foot.

That’s all toilet flushes kinds that I’ve seen till now in Italy 🙂 If I find some new kinds of Ligurian/Italian toilet flushes I will surely update you! 😉
